Finding the best introductory wine club offer is relatively straight forwards. First have in your mind the type of wines you like to drink – red wine, white wine, or a mix of both perhaps.
Most wine clubs are either run by individual wineries who make up wine packs using their exclusive house brands, or, the other type of wine club is one that is independent of wineries and buys the best wines they can for their members.
In the past I have been a member of both types of wine clubs, but I gravitate towards the independent wine clubs for the specific reason that I enjoy the variety of wines they can ship me on a monthly basis. Part of most wine drinkers enthusiasm for wine is the learning about new wine styles and experiencing wines that they may not be able to purchase in a retail wine shop.
I love the mystery that comes with opening a bottle of Australia Cabernet Sauvignon, or a New Zealand Pinot Noir – or perhaps even a local Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend from a boutique Californian winery. Its exciting and I tend to invite friends over for a taste to make it a social occasion.
Here is the awesome thing about the big independent wine clubs – they have huge buying power and can negotiate great deals on fantastic wines. They are also very generous with introductory wine club offers – the Wall Street Journal wine club for instance has an introductory red wine club offer of like $69 for 12 bottles! That’s like just over $5 a bottle for really good wines.
The larger independent wine clubs can also afford to offer guarantees of quality, and they generally have a no-commitment policy which enables you to opt-out an any time from receiving any future shipments.
Here are in my opinion the 3 top wine club introductory offers available today.
From the Wall Street Journal group - Save $120 on your first 12 bottles!
Four Seasons wine club is a big independent with a wide range of selection -Save $100 on first 12 bottles!
Zagat wines also has a great selection, favorable policies and you can save $100 on the first 12 bottles!
So check these offers out – most have that no-commitment deal, at least at the time of writing this article. All are big wine clubs with huge buying power and the wines are selected by wine experts. If you are not happy with the quality they generally have an exchange policy. And most importantly the range of wines they source is extensive and of excellent quality.
Enjoy your wine in moderation!
